Help! I need somebody! Help!

ACT OF KINDNESS #23


S.C. was a hero last week! He drove past a group of young kids who were pulled over on the side of the road. He stopped to help them and found out that they had run out of gas. 
 Ahhh!!! We have all been there!!!  
S.C. so kindly went to the gas station, bought a gas can and some gas to share with his stranded strangers.  They offered to give him money but instead of taking it he told these kids to do an act of kindness for someone else!!!  
Hopefully this random act of kindness made a lasting impact on these kids. I can guarantee that their mother's are grateful he stopped to help!

L.L. was recently on vacation and had a really positive experience with stranger.  She tells me that they had the nicest trolly driver who went out of his way to help them.  He was so friendly and did such a wonderful job making them feel welcome!  She decided to surprise him with a big, fancy, designer cupcake!  He was soooo thrilled and said that no one has ever been that kind to him before.  
Yahoo!!!  
One cupcake at a time, we just might make a difference in the world!!

Act of Kindness #18

C.H. wrote a note this week to an acquaintance, who is very ill.  This women needs lots of love and support right now...so C.H.'s kind thoughts and prayers is just another way for this wonderful women to know how wide her circle of support is.

A busy bee...

E.M. has been a busy little bee this week.  She contributed Act of Kindness #16 and #17 for the group. One of the students in her school volunteers for a local animal shelter. This young lady was looking for donations for the animals.  E.M. decided to contribute to her schoolmate's cause.  She will be donating some dog treats and a new collar to the shelter.  

E.M. wrote a hand-written note to one of her school teachers. This teacher's mother passed away this past week so E.M. wanted to express her sympathy.  I think this unexpected act of kindness is a sure way to show this teacher support.  So proud of you E.M!!!

A team effort...

G.C. and H.C. worked together this week to bake some delicious cookies. S.C. suggested that they deliver these baked goods to their new neighbors.  What a personal way to make this elderly couple feel welcomed to the neighborhood.  Great team work!!!

Act of Kindness #15
G.C. took 5 extra minutes at the end of her work day to connect with her students. She explains that the teachers all take the students to the bus and most of the teachers have "tuned out" by this point of the day. They push the students to the bus without much attention or they are wrapped up in conversations with the other teachers.  G.H. said she never noticed how disconnected everyone was until recently.  So she made a conscious effort this week to wave goodbye, smile, and acknowledge the children as they were loading the buses. She said the students really responded well to this extra effort.  Who knows maybe this very simple act brightened a child's day???

I just wanted to take a minute to say great work everybody!!! Your good deeds are pouring in and I am just so inspired by all of you.  Thank you for embracing this challenge with me!

Act of Kindness #12 and #13

L.L. tells me that she participated in our challenge this week by doing not one but two acts of kindness!! For her first good deed she made a work house call for an elderly employee who needed help with the education system.  This women was thrilled and I am sure touched that L.L. went out of her way to make her day a little easier!!!  L.L. also took some time out of her day to send an "thinking of you" note to a friend that recently lost her husband.

I am reminded again that good deeds don't have to cost money, don't have to take a ton of time, and that they REALLY can be simple and easy to do. L.L's good deeds clearly had a positive effect on someone's day!

Act of kindness #11

M.B.J. was shopping with me today and instantly noticed one big yummy M & M cookie that was neatly packaged.  Now I am not surprised that this attracted my little one but her response to the cookie is what surprised me.  She didn't ask to buy this for herself but instead to buy as one of her acts of kindness.  She proudly told me that this would be a nice treat for our neighbor lady, as a thank you for being so nice to our family.  

Ahhh...its sinking in...my 4 year old is thinking about how to make someone else's day a little better.  Makes me a proud mama!!!

M.M. found these treasures and bought them to give to children whom have been admitted to the local hospital.  The best part of this act of kindness is that M.M. arranged for a small group of us to personally deliver this package to the hospital. While we were not able to give them out to the children directly we were able to meet with one of the child advocates.  We learned that each child that is admitted to the hospital receives a stuffed "lovey" to help comfort them during their stay.  She told us that our donation would make an instant impact on a child that needs some comfort. I was proud to be a small part of this good deed!

"I sent handwritten notes to 7 different people.  They are all each facing difficult and somewhat overwhelming issues.  Some of these people have been my friends forever, some passed in and out of my daily life and one is an acquaintance that has shown great kindness in her work with children.  I don't have frequent contact with any of these people but none the less it was important to me that they know I am thinking of them. "

E.M. did an awesome act of kindness with her friend shortly after the tragedy in Newtown.  The two girls wrote sympathy cards to the families that lost a loved one.  They were mailed to the families with lots of well wishes and prayers tucked within the envelopes.

the kindness is pouring in...

Act of Kindness #3
M.M. informed me today that he participated in his first act of kindness for 2013.  He was in line at a store and the lady in front of him had a huge box full of candy.  He commented that she must be having a fun party with all of that candy. She told him that she was buying the sweet treats to send to the troops in Afghanistan.  After hearing how much her bill was she commented out loud, "oh that is a little more than I thought it would be".  M.M. very thoughtfully pulled out $10 to help lessen her total. She was so flustered by his unexpected good deed that she struggled to complete the transaction.  The act of kindness ended with a hug, high five, a few tears, and maybe even an inspired teenage clerk??

Act of Kindness #4:
C.H. also submitted her first act of kindness for 2013.  She tells me that after a recent snowstorm, she snow blowed her neighbor's sidewalk and driveway.  He is an elderly man and has mobility issues and the 16" of snow would have been more than he could have handled.  Her extra efforts surely made a huge impact on that man's day!

The first act of kindness is in....

#1 Act of Kindness is in the books for our group!  A.H. so graciously has been "gifting" her embroidery time/talents to various people since the start of the new year. She has been passing out baby bibs and monogramed bags to deserving family friends and neighbors.  I think those of us who have been blessed with a piece of work from A.H. would all agree that it is a really wonderful treat!!! Great work A.H....Thanks for getting us started on this journey!

My challenge to you...

Ok now you know the story. Here is my challenge to you...Let's each vow to do at least 26 random acts of kindness during 2013.  These acts can be as big or as simple as you would like to make them. You can spend a ton of money but you don't have to spend a dime. Get your kids involved..have them come up with their own #26 acts of kindness. Be creative, Be inspired, and be proud of your actions.

 I only have two stipulations for you to follow...1. all of the acts must be for someone outside of our "immediate" family. I think we all do great things for each other all of the time so it would be fun to spread the love to others.  2. I would ask that you email me as you complete your tasks so that I can post your good deed for the participating members to see. This will allow us to keep a running record of the positive difference we have made as a group.

I promise to stay on top of this blog so we can all continue to be inspired throughout the year. I am excited to get started...are you?
